Public beta on the Base Sepolia test network. Payments use test USDC with no real value: do not send real funds. The escrow contract has not had its external security audit yet, and the terms are drafts pending legal review. What the beta means

OpenVPT

01 · About OpenVPT

About OpenVPT: safe between strangers, with no middleman holding the money.

In development · planned first launch: a public beta on the Base Sepolia test network (test USDC, no real money)

Buying a license key, a template or a course from someone you have never met usually means one side has to trust the other first, or both have to trust a middleman with the money. OpenVPT (Open Virtual Product Trade) exists to remove that step: the payment waits in an on-chain escrow that no single party, us included, can move alone.

02 · What OpenVPT is

What OpenVPT is: one marketplace, three parts.

  1. Part 1

    A marketplace for digital goods

Sellers list software, e-books, courses, games, design assets and services. Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, and every order has its own chat.

  2. Part 2

    An on-chain escrow

The buyer pays into the VPTEscrow smart contract. Settling needs two of three signatures (buyer, seller, platform), so no single party can move the money alone.

  3. Part 3

    Arbitration when it is needed

If a delivery is not what was promised, the buyer can open a dispute within the inspection window (3 days by default). Both sides have 72 hours to add evidence and agree; after that an arbitrator decides how the escrow is split, or the platform proposes the outcome if one side never responded.

SettlementUSDCon Base

Prices and payments are in USDC. The contract is built for Base; so far it has only been tested on a local development chain. The planned first launch is a public beta on the Base Sepolia test network with test USDC, so no real money is at stake; Base mainnet comes only after the external security audit and the legal review.

03 · Principles

How we build: four principles.

  • Principle 1

    Non-custodial by design

The platform cannot move escrowed funds on its own: settling needs two distinct signatures. The contract owner can pause new orders but can never settle or withdraw.

  • Principle 2

    Transparent fees

One platform fee, 5% by default, taken only from what the seller receives and fixed in the signed order. Buyers pay the listed price, and a full refund carries no platform fee.

    See the fee details
  • Principle 3

    Real data only

Figures on this site come from live platform data or from the rules in our code. When a number is not available, we show nothing instead of a placeholder.

  • Principle 4

    Evidence stays on the platform

File deliveries are recorded with a SHA-256 fingerprint, and the order chat and dispute evidence stay with the order, so an arbitrator decides from the record instead of screenshots traded elsewhere.

04 · What we are building next

What we are building next. Everything here is planned, not live.

Everything in this list is planned, not live. Order and timing may change.

  1. Settlement signatures that expire

A second version of the escrow contract adds a deadline to settlement signatures, so an old proposal can no longer be used later.

    Planned
  2. Smart-contract wallets

Linking a smart-contract wallet (EIP-1271) in addition to regular wallets.

    Planned
  3. A fuller view for arbitrators

The arbitrator assigned to a dispute gets read access to the order and its chat, not only the dispute file.

    Planned
  4. External security audit and legal review

An independent review of the escrow contract and the backend, and reviewed terms of service and privacy policy, before any launch with real funds on Base mainnet.

    Planned
  5. Public beta on a test network

The first launch is planned on the Base Sepolia test network with test USDC, so no real money is involved, and stays there until the audit and the legal review are done.

    Planned
  6. Staged payments and seller deposits

Paying in milestones, optional seller deposits and support for more networks.

    Planned
  7. A mobile app

Buying, selling and order updates from your phone.
